When translation experts deal with translation theories, methods, practice etc., they usually stress at some point, the importance of "external factors" (Ch. Krag 1992) to render a text into a satisfactory translation product. Three factors contribute to increased comprehension of the source text and therefore translating competence: 1) a solid basis of general knowledge (Weltkenntnisse); 2) socio-cultural awareness and 3) specific skills and interests on the part of the translator.
