Résumé du colloque

This study looked at the physiological and subjective responses of recent MI patients at rest, during two bathing activities (sitting sink bath and sitting shower), and after five minute recovery post-bath. Thirty MI patients were tested on two consecutive days between two and nine days post-MI. No significant physiological or subjective response differences between the two types of bath were found. Normal and significant increases in physiological and subjective responses for both baths were observed in 30 subjects. Two subjects showed atypical responses to the bathing activities (based on HR and BP change scores). No correlations existed between the physiological variables, or between the physiological and subjective responses. Group conclusions suggested that MI patients should be able to choose between a sitting sink bath or a sitting shower. However, when the MI patient is promoted to new, higher levels of activity, or an activity of longer duration, individual assessment is recommended.
